Attend Business Meetings from your office or home
Richard MacManus of RWW provides us a useful (and inexpensive) summary of a significant new Forrester report entitled ‘Getting Real Work Done In Virtual Worlds’. As you would expect of Forrester their report contains interesting case studies of companies leading the way in virtual worlds for meetings. Richard gives some examples and then raises the question of acceptance in the workplace. He shows a couple of scenarios:
Richard quotes the report that for most people over 30 virtual worlds involve “frivolous games or places where deviant personalities exhibit their alter egos”. Personally I would have no problem being represented by a glamorous avatar.
Web 2.0 in a Nutshell
Although the post from Sean McClowry is about a lofty framework for Sustainability 2.0 it incorporates very concise and accurate synopses of Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0:
What is Web 2.0?
It’s and attitude, not only a technology
- Share, Participate, Be transparent, Honest voice
It’s about people
- Communities of trust
The web as a platform
- Capacity to use the web as an Operating System
- A ‘writeable web’
and
What is Enterprise 2.0?
A company applying Web 2.0 technology/techniques to deliver:
- New Products/New Services
- Increased Quality
- Better us of ‘people talent’
Enabling corporate agility
- Flexible and Anticipative Solutions
- Works with SOA to focus on reuse and efficiency
Apart from SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) these are good definitions to use for the non-technical members of your organisation.
