Wikiversity – applying Wikipedia concepts to e-learning
22 January 2006
With Wikiversity I was impressed by how the technology and philisophy of the Wikipedia phenomenon could be applied to structured e-learning along university lines for no cost to the students. Wikiversity is very embryonic in form and still awaiting full backing of the Wikibooks board (itself an extension of Wikipedia into online books). Nevertheless the idea of undertaking genuine university-style online courses that potentially could lead to a recognised qualification is intriguing.
The answer to the question ‘Who accredits the online subjects?’ is the same as “Who vouches for the quality of Wikipedia entries?’.
