Discovered ‘toothing’ at last

I’ve heard of the social effects that are taking place with the ability of bluetooth phones to detect each other in public places. If a mobile phone is left in bluetooth discoverable mode then other phones can detect them and initiate communication. Thus bluetooth phone users can suddenly receive messages from other phones in a 10-30 metre radius.

What I hadn’t heard until this week was the lovely word ‘toothing’ that is used for this activity. Sadly since the practice can be used for harassment it seems to have become a derogatory term.
