First impressions of Google Pages and Spreadsheets

Along with millions of others I signed up for the Google Pages beta the other day. A few minutes later I had a passable home page for my Google Page site. The manager is simple and page templates easy to use. For anyone wanting to create a simple web site of a few pages with static content this is a very convenient and free solution. Although you can’t have your own domain name the URL is quite memorable, in my case mjrees.googlepages.com.

A few days later I signed up for the new Google Spreadsheets site and eventually received an invitation to participate in the trial. For quick calculations on the road with the ability to download in Excel format this is a useful service. With each sheet being limited to about 100 rows and 25 columns this service is not yet business-ready. The user experience and responsiveness are impressive though.
