Photosynth – turning 2D photos into 3D fly-round views

You just have to be impressed at the Photosynth guys that are part of the Microsoft Live Labs. The early preview is now available with 3 or 4 photo collections to try out provided you are running IE6 or IE7. Turning a shared collection of 2D photo images into a 3D model is significant in itself. Then providing a way to fly through the model with simple mouse movements, albeit with the help of an ActiveX control, add a really cool capability. I really look forward to taking my own photos and building a Photosynth model of my house for example. This may be a while away as yet.
