Wikipedia Marches On (updated)

According to the latest survey from Pew/Internet about the American use of Wikipedia 36% of all adults use the online encyclopedia. More pertinent for a university is the figure of 50% of college graduates use Wikipedia. We will have to be very careful to educate students on the benefits and pitfalls of Wikipedia to avoid the ‘use Wikipedia for everything’ syndrome.

It was therefore very pleasing to see from Gulcin’s e-newletter article on the powerful and academically valid Central Search facility. This is a significant tool to fight the inappropriate Wikipedia use problem.

Update: Some more useful debate on the pros and cons of Wikipedia and a link to the podcast.
