AusWeb07 Summary

It was enjoyable and instructive to attend AusWeb07 (see report). A quick summary of the main points:

  • low delegate numbers lead to an intimate conference with plenty of time for networking
  • range of keynote speakers was very good with a balance between academic and commercial interests
  • the AusWeb paper track presentation format uses brief 10-minute presentations and over half the session time for questions and discussion
  • web topics gaining ground at AusWeb include: elearning, content management systems, social media, semantic web, search engine optimisation
  • web topics losing ground: library science, e-commerce, some web technology
  • a radical restructure of the conference is needed to attract higher attendance

I look forward to an improved AusWeb next year.
