Inevitable Open Access to Research Output
3 March 2010
Thanks to George for his concise tweet reminder with the words ‘open access to research is inevitable’ – my feelings entirely. He pointed us to the Wired Campus article by Jennifer Howard reporting on a meeting of the Association of Research Libraries last year. At that meeting Bernard Schultz summed it up nicely when talking about full-text search of scholarly publications:
I want really useful tools that understand context to retrieve text intelligently, hunt down key equations, ensure completeness of bibliographies, help assess the real impact of a scientist’s work
For me the last phrase is the most important.
